Dr Nicolle Wiechula

Registered Specialist in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation

 

Nicolle completed her vet degree at the University of Adelaide before commencing a 12-month rotating equine internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. She then went on to locum as an equine practitioner in Queensland for 9months before completing a second internship at the University of Sydney. Following this, Nicolle completed her residency training and master’s degrees at the University of Sydney. Once specialised in sports medicine and rehabilitation, she worked in private practice on the Mornington Peninsula for 18 months, servicing a range of clients from sport horses and racing to pleasure horses and miniature ponies. She has now returned to the University of Sydney and is a registered specialist with the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (equine).

Nicolle is an official FEI veterinarian for show jumping and eventing. Her research has focused on drug clearance times and back pain. She is particularly interested in muscular conditioning and multi-disciplinary rehabilitation in preventing and managing injuries and increasing performance in equine athletes. She is also passionate about client education and started her own podcast (“Ultimate Equine Podcast”) aimed at explaining veterinary topics to owners in a user-friendly way.

Nicolle just completed her first marathon, and in her spare time enjoys running, hiking, spending time with her rescue greyhound Jax and eating good food.
